Supervisor Lesko to host Brookhaven Business Advisory Council’s 7th Annual “Building Business in Brookhaven” Expo

Congressman Tim Bishop to serve as keynote speaker for networking event

Farmingville, NY – On Tuesday, September 27, the Brookhaven Business Advisory Council (BBAC) will present its Seventh Annual “Building Business In Brookhaven” conference at Town Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Supervisor Mark Lesko is hosting this event at Brookhaven Town Hall and Congressman Tim Bishop will be the keynote speaker. The event, which attracted 65 vendors and over 200 participants last year, will primarily focus on business networking and will include a trade show with booths featuring dozens of local, regional and national companies that service businesses in Brookhaven Town. General admission to this year’s event is free.

Supervisor Mark Lesko said, “The backbone of our local economy are the thousands of large and small businesses in Brookhaven Town and we are strongly committed to help them grow and prosper. The Brookhaven Business Advisory Council works very hard to promote business in Brookhaven Town and I commend its membership for organizing this worthwhile event.”

“A top priority of my office is encouraging new job creation in Eastern Long Island, and I am proud to support the Brookhaven Business Advisory Council’s work to attract companies to Long Island, assist entrepreneurs launching a new businesses, and help existing businesses thrive through networking,” said Congressman Bishop, “I appreciate the opportunity to attend the conference and hear the views of local business leaders on how to grow the economy and strengthen our community.”

“The Building Business in Brookhaven Expo is a very popular event and each year it gets bigger and our attendance increases,” said Councilman Tim Mazzei, who serves as Town Board liaison to the Department of Economic Development. “Especially in these tough economic times, business owners need to network more, share ideas and work together to develop creative solutions that will them help them grow. The Expo is the perfect place to do that.”

“We are thrilled at the level of interest in this year’s Building Business in Brookhaven Expo,” said Bruce Newman, President of the BBAC, “The number of attendees is expected to increase significantly this year, making the BBB Expo one of the largest business networking events in the Town.”

The following changes have been made to this year’s format:

  • Expanded food court with free food from local restaurants.
  • No workshops, so there will be no interruption in networking time.
  • Multiple raffle prizes.
  • Brian Cohen, host of the Brookhaven Business Advisory Council’s TV show Getting Down to Business, will interview vendors for a segment of the show to be aired on Brookhaven Cablevision Channel 18.
  • Vendors will be given a first-come-first-serve choice of which room they want their table in.

The BBAC expects a large number of vendor table requests this year so they recommend that reservations be made as soon as possible. Vendors that have confirmed include Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Brookhaven National Laboratory, CHASE Bank, Citibank, Community Development Corporation of Long Island, New York State Department of Labor, Schecher Management Consulting, and Suffolk Federal Credit Union.
