The NYS Assembly are about to pass A8929, a piece of legislation that Long Islanders United Against the Common Core that leaves New York’s children “out of the equation entirely.” Governor Cuomo is backing this up with a media blitz citing testing as the central cause of the crisis in NYS schools, Long Islanders United Against the Common Core’s press release states.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the United States Marine Corps recently delivered $25,000 in specialty toys to children at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Nassau County. UCP features a school that serves over 250 students, ranging in age from 18 months to 21 years of age, who are transported from school districts across Nassau County. In addition, UCP hosts an “Adult Day Habilitation Program,” which is a year round program serving individuals, 21 and older who are developmentally disabled.

uffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will be holding a live tele-conference tonight’s night where he will outline the number one threat to public health and safety in the region: Nitrogen pollution of ground and surface waters. According to the executive summary of Suffolk County’s Comprehensive Water Resources Management plan, released this past week, nitrogen poisoning has reached critically high levels; impacting drinking water, recreational waterways and reducing wetlands, which act as Long Island’s last line of natural defense against disasters such as Superstorm Sandy. Residents who participate will have an opportunity to ask the County Executive questions directly.
