Political Insider - Issue XVI April 1st

By featured writer Marty Schwartz

For this column I have interviewed newly elected Oyster Bay Councilman,
republican Chris J. Coschignano.
BACKGROUND
Age 38 and single. Lifelong resident of Syosset. Real Estate and Matrimonial
attorney in private practice with a Law Degree from Touro College.
Undergraduate degree in Business Management from St. John's University.

HOW I WON MY FIRST ELECTION
Just plain old hard work. I went door-to-door and met 25,000 residents in
Oyster Bay. I raised almost $100,000 for this campaign. My army of volunteers
came from both the north and south sides of Oyster Bay.

TO COUNTY EXECUTIVE SUOZZI
We know each other very well and I have family in Glen Cove. I have
tremendous respect for your work in Glen Cove. You have a monumental task
ahead of you and you need to work with the Towns to resolve issues.

AFFILIATIONS
Member New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations, Member, Syosset
Chamber of Commerce, Member, Gorman Knights of Columbus Lodge (Glen Cove) and
Member, Sons of Italy (Syosset).

MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT BUSH
I'm impressed with you and I also liked your father, despite the fact that he
showed weakness. Your foreign policy team has been outstanding and I believe
that we can use your team to help formulate domestic policies.

OYSTER BAY ISSUES:

THE ENVIRONMENT
I believe the Town Board has been on top of the Liberty Site problem
(Farmingdale).
We have been responsive to the needs of the residents and the environmental
groups.

ZONING
We must have preservation of open spaces and redevelopment of the land. I
feel that you cannot draw a "Master Plan" and rezone it in one shot. It has
to be done by hamlet, within Supervisor Venditto's vision for the year 2020.

VILLAGE MAYORS
I have a good relationship with all Oyster Bay Mayors and will continue to
cultivate relationships and meet with the Mayors on a regular basis.

THE BUDGET PROCESS
The Administration has done a great job. Every Town Council Member has been
included in the process.

CERRO WIRE
The Town Board did the right thing here. The Courts may eventually send it
back to the Board to be reviewed.

GOALS (this year and next)
To get married and raise a family. Professionally I plan to build up my
practice and continue to master the skills needed to become a good Councilman.
