Political Insider - Issue XLII (42) March 4, 2004

By featured writer Marty Schwartz

An interview with Joe Saladino, Republican Assembly candidate, 12th District.

BACKGROUND

Age 42 and a lifelong resident of Massapequa. My family has resided here for four generations. Currently Director of Operations, Town of Oyster Bay, and a former Executive Assistant to the Presiding Supervisor, Town of Hempstead.

Masters Degree in broadcast Journalism from New York Institute of Technology, attended Tulane University and received a Bachelors Degree from New York Institute of Technology in Speech and Communications.

SUOZZI ADMINISTRATION

The Administration has raised taxes 57% in three years and has raised spending over $300 million. These increases and increases in assessment may force our seniors off Long Island and now allow our children and grandchildren to live here. Taxes need to be kept low.

DEATH PENALTY

We need to make every effort to protect our citizens from serial killers, pedophiles and cop killers.

TOP ISSUES FOR MASSAEPQUA & FARMINGDALE

It’s very simple. (1) Keeping taxes down. (2) Protecting our children’s right to a proper education and (3) Keeping taxes down (4) I will fight tirelessly for a law to keep dangerous pedophiles off our streets for life.

GOVERNOR PATAKI

He has done a good job and has done it during a critical time. He was our Governor when our City and nation was attacked. He has brought about tax relief and has shown amazing courage. I am looking forward to working with him

closely.

FAVORITE SPORTS ATHLETE, TV SHOW, BOOK & ACTRESS

Joe Montana, news programs, The Old Man and the Sea and Ingrid Bergman

CANDIDATE BILL FUNK

If the voters choose the Republican-Conservative candidate, they will be voting for experience and the candidate

committed to keeping taxes down.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN R’s and D’s in ALBANY

The Republicans in Albany put their focus on keeping taxes in check and concentrate on the needs of our suburbs, schools and families.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES (12th ASEMBLY DISTRICT)

I’ve had a lifelong interest in environmental conservation and protection. We can do a lot right now to protect

our aquifer system so that we have clean potable drinking water for generations. I will continue to keep our bays, estuaries, wetlands and marine environment growing and healthy.

AFFILIATIONS

Member of the Massapequa Kiwanis (16 years and former President), former Kiwanian of the Year, Member, Sons of Italy (Columbus Lodge), Co-Founder, Massapequa Anti Graffiti Involvement Committee, Member, St. Rose de Lima Parish, former ice hockey coach (town of Oyster Bay) and Sponsor Executive of Boy Scout Troop #5 and Cub Scout Pack #5.

GOALS (next 1-2 years)

To win this race and serve the people in this community that has been my home and my love. My life’s work has been about serving the community and as the Assemblyman, I will bring my life’s work to a higher level.
