Political Insider - Issue XII January Feb 18th

By featured writer Marty Schwartz

For this column I have interviewed Babylon Republican Committeeman up-and-comer, Scott Lockwood.

BACKGROUND Age 42; married with four children. Lifelong resident of Bablon Village. Graduate Degree from Long Island University in Public Administration. Administrator in a family-owned assisted living facility.

POLITICAL GOAL For the Reps to get back Town Hall. The Reps do not have an R on the Board in Babylon Town Hall. We have forgotten the fundamentals of elections. There are 149 election districts in Babylon. We need to work district by district.

TO BOB GAFFNEY Help us unseat Dave Bishop in the 14th LD. We need more solid strength in the legislature.

PET PEEVES We were promised no tax increase by Schaffer and Bellone and got an 8.9% tax increase. The poor condition of the toilets in Tanner Park (Copiague), where the baseball tournaments are held, is horrible. There is also too much clutter on Montauk Highway.

RE PAT CURCIO I have one question for Pat Curcio. What will it take to get your support once again?

BABYLON'S FINANCES Each individual employee must be evaluated for cost-effectiveness. As an independent businessman over the past 22 years, I have a perspective that most people do not have in Town Hall. Supervisor Bellone will be scrutinized for his business decision making in government and evaluated in approximately two years.

LEISURE TIME Clamming on the Bay; being involved with Little League, bicycling, and activities with Troop 194 (Babylon).

MESSAGE TO BABYLON VOTERS You do not have to accept things the way they are. You have become complacent. It's time to look at the community and make it better. We pay a tremendous amount to live here and deserve rewards for our taxes.

BABYLON (OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS) I see the Reps controlling Town Hall. I would love to reorganize the committee structure for the Town and refresh people on how to work a district. I'm interested in public service. Most of Town Hall is self-serving now. It won't be in the future.
