For this column I have interviewed 19th Assembly
District candidate, Democrat Steve November. Steve also has the
Working Families and Green Party lines. The February 12th Assembly
District race covers the Merrick-Bellmore areas, in addition to parts of
Freeport, Baldwin, Levittown and Island Park.
BACKGROUND Age 41; married with
two children. Resident of Merrick and formerly from Oceanside. Trial
attorney with a NYC law firm and a graduate of Hofstra Law School. A
former biology teacher that received a Masters in Science Education from
Hofstra.
AFFILIATIONS Member of the Old
Lindenmere Civic Association, Central Merrick Homeowners Association and
the North Bellmore Civic Association.
WHY I AM RUNNING FOR THE STATE ASSEMBLY
I feel that the residents of the district need a strong voice in the
Assembly Majority. I will fight to increase state aid for our school
districts, restore funding to the superfund to clean up superfund sites
in the district, and make healthcare and prescription drugs for
affordable for all seniors.
MESSAGE TO GOVERNOR PATAKI You
must be committed to helping turn Nassau County around with the
appropriate state aid.
GOALS (FIRST 100 DAYS) IF ELECTED
I will fight to increase state funding for Nassau's school districts,
including essential funding to keep the Roosevelt School District
functioning. I will fight to increase State funding for Nassau's
essential services including social services, youth programs and Long
Island Bus.
TO COUNTY EXECUTIVE SUOZZI I will
work hard in the Assembly to secure the State assistance you will need
to turn Nassau around.
HOBBIES Horticulture, stamp
collecting, reading the classics and playing guitar.
TOP PROBLEMS IN THE 19TH AD The
State funding formula proposed for the school year 2002-03 by the
Governor shortchanges all of the school districts in the Assembly
District and the Governor's supposed increases are far below what
present law requires. The North Bellmore School District will actually
lose state aid this year under the Governor's budget plan. I will ensure
that our school districts get their fair share of state aid. This will
help hold down our school property taxes.
