Suffolk Republicans Unveil a New Vision for Suffolk: LI JOBS

Press-Releases, Suffolk

Angie Carpenter Discussing LI JOBS

As Suffolk County’s unemployment has risen to a disappointing 7.3%, Suffolk County Executive candidate Angie Carpenter joined with Republican candidates for County Legislature to unveil the Suffolk County Republicans’ LI JOBS plan. With the backdrop of an empty storefront, a scene all too familiar to local neighborhoods, the Republican candidates described their plan to put Suffolk County back on the right track.

The six-point plan located here focuses on:

L – Leadership & Ethics Reform,
I – Improving Government Services,
J – Jobs Creation & Business Friendly Environment,
O – Overhauling Government,
B – Balancing Budgets and
S – Saving Our Environment.

The cornerstone of the GOP plan is to foster a business friendly environment in order to create more jobs for Suffolk County residents.

“Turning this County around requires a strong commitment to changing the way we do business,” said Angie Carpenter, GOP candidate for County Executive. “Our plan offers detailed ways to transition Suffolk County into a more business-friendly place.”

The Republican plan rebuffs the bigger government principals espoused by the current Democrat majority in the County Legislature. In the five years Democrats have controlled the Legislature, county debt has risen 76% to over $1.3 billion.

“It’s time to return county government’s core mission,” said Deborah Poulos, candidate for County Legislature from Huntington. “Taxpayers can no longer afford unnecessary programs and duplicative services. Suffolk County taxes too much and spends too much, stifling job growth.”

According to the current County Executive’s operating budget, Suffolk County faces an onerous $175 million deficit.

“To achieve long term lasting growth, we need to attract new businesses to Suffolk County, expanding our tax base, and allowing our residents to prosper and our tax burden to shrink,” said Karen Wilutis, candidate for County Legislature from Brookhaven.

Sadly, according to the most recent report from the New York State Department of Labor, local unemployment has risen to 7.3%.

“As a small business owner, I know what it takes to create jobs. This plan empowers existing small businesses to expand and will attract new business to Suffolk County,” said John Giannott, candidate for County Legislature from Brookhaven.

Suffolk County elections are on Tuesday, November 8th.
